Qualifying individuals
People who qualify for no-cost emergency dental work under the IFHP include resettled refugees, protected persons in Canada, refugee claimants, victims of human trafficking, and detainees.
Dental emergencies
The IFHP will cover the relief of emergency dental concerns such as oral-facial trauma, significant dental infection, prolonged bleeding of the mouth area, and tooth pain that can’t be managed by over-the-counter medications.
Treatments covered
For qualifying people, IFHP will cover emergency oral exams; X-rays; caries, trauma, and pain control; emergency prescriptions; simple tooth extractions; denture relines; and denture repairs. With preauthorization, IFHP will cover amalgam or composite restoration for severely affected teeth; complicated dental extractions; and complete and partial dentures.
